JAMAICA is on the cusp of securing another transformative tourism investment with international hospitality group PAM Hotels moving forward with plans to develop a Hard Rock Resort and Casino in Montego Bay.
With the necessary Government approvals, the luxury resort is expected to feature more than 1,000 rooms and will include a full-scale casino, representing a major expansion of Jamaica’s high-end tourism offerings. This development forms part of a broader investment project that also includes the UNICO 18°77° Hotel Jamaica, currently under construction, and the planned AVA Resort Jamaica, all located on an expansive beach front property in Montego Bay, St James.
It is estimated that the combined value of these developments is likely to exceed US$1 billion, positioning it as one of the most substantial private-sector tourism investments in the region’s history.
The Government supported the groundbreaking for the UNICO development more than two years ago, in a ceremony led by Prime Minister Andrew Holness, Deputy Prime Minister Dr Horace Chang, Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett, and now state minister in the Ministry of Tourism, Senator Delano Seiveright.
At that time, Holness welcomed the investment as he declared, “I welcome the PAM Hotels to Jamaica. We are very happy to have you as a development partner. We see this investment as a vote of confidence in our business environment, our economic predictability and our unique value proposition. It is an investment into our economy and into our people and society.
“PAM Hotels has made the decision to invest in Jamaica not only because of our exceptional cultural heritage but also because Jamaica is a country that you can bank on.”
According to Holness, Jamaica is committed to providing, “Safety, security, soundness, seamlessness, and stability as pillars of our investor and visitor environment”.
Bartlett also welcomed the project as a strategic investment not only in tourism infrastructure but also in the empowerment of Jamaicans through jobs, skills training, and expanded economic opportunities.
At full build-out, the integrated development could comprise up to 2,000 rooms, generating more than 4,000 construction jobs and approximately 5,000 permanent jobs during operations.
It is expected to deliver wide-ranging benefits to micro, small, medium, and large Jamaican businesses, particularly those in construction, agriculture, food and beverage, entertainment, and creative industries.
The introduction of the globally recognised Hard Rock brand will mark its first resort and casino in Jamaica.
Known worldwide for its fusion of music, pop culture, and entertainment, Hard Rock operates more than 310 venues in 76 countries, including 35 hotels and 18 casinos, and stages more than 35,000 live music events annually.
Its entry into Jamaica is expected to strengthen the island’s appeal to a younger, affluent, entertainment-focused market.
The team at PAM Hotels has been leading players in the lifestyle hospitality space for decades, with an extensive portfolio of acclaimed resorts throughout the Americas. These include the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic, Hard Rock Hotel Los Cabos, Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya, UNICO 20°87° Hotel Riviera Maya, Eden Roc Miami Beach, Nobu Hotel Chicago, Nobu Hotel Los Cabos, and Nobu Hotel Miami Beach, among others.
